Warming shelters opened across Milwaukee Monday, giving the unhoused and those in need a safe place to spend the cold winter nights.

Five of the six shelters will be open every night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., regardless of temperature, until March 31, 2024. This is a change from past years, when some shelters only opened on nights colder than a certain temperature.

St. Ben's warming shelter, at 930 W. State St., is only open when temps drop to 25 degrees or below.

Those in need of warming shelter services are encouraged to call the 211 social services hotline for the most up-to-date information. Dial 211 to reach the free hotline.
